Terms of Use

Use the site lawfully and respectfully. Don’t try to disrupt it, access other people’s accounts or data, submit false information, or use automated tools to scrape or overload it.

Keep your password confidential and your information accurate. You’re responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over; users under 18 need a parent or guardian’s permission.

Membership is free and subject to FICI’s approval. FICI may decline or end a membership that doesn’t fit its mandate or breaks these terms.

You keep all rights to your inventions and to the content you submit. By submitting an application or form, you allow FICI to use that content to review it, provide the services you requested, and share it as described at submission (for example, with competition organizers if you’re selected). If you give permission to feature your invention, you allow FICI to display the name, photos and summary you’ve approved on its website and social media. You can withdraw that permission for the future at any time.

FICI takes care with your information, but doesn’t enter into confidentiality agreements through this site. Public disclosure of an invention before it’s protected can affect patent rights. Don’t submit anything you aren’t comfortable sharing, and seek professional IP advice where needed.

Information on this site is general. It isn’t legal, patent, financial, tax or investment advice. FICI connects innovators with qualified professionals where appropriate.

Contributions are processed by Stripe. FICI is a not-for-profit organization, not a registered charity, and can’t issue official donation receipts for tax purposes. If a contribution was made in error, contact [email protected] within 30 days and FICI will help. Monthly contributions can be cancelled anytime.

Registration for events may take place on third-party platforms (such as Skejel, Luma or event organizers’ sites), whose terms apply. FICI isn’t responsible for third-party sites linked from this site.

The site’s content, including FICI’s name and logo, belongs to FICI or its licensors. You may share links and quote brief excerpts with attribution. Other use requires our permission. IFIA’s name and marks belong to IFIA.

We aim to keep the site accurate and available but provide it “as is.” To the extent permitted by law, FICI isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the site.

We may update these terms and will post the new version here with its date.

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
